Review: Get Together Festival 2025
Get Together festival celebrated its fifth iteration this weekend just gone, and it proved once again to be an excellent proving ground for some of the best emerging musical talent locally and internationally. This last weekend in May brought sun to Sheffield, and with it huge audiences brimmed with admiration, joy and feverish excitement for the acts that took to the six different stages plotted around the city’s former industrial heartland Kelham Island.

It was a particularly packed affair this year, with most venues at full capacity for the majority of the day. Queues stretched out onto the street, heads and shoulders filled in archways of performance space entrances. It didn’t appear to dampen the mood though. If anything it enabled festgoers to take a breather from the stimulating shows to enjoy one of the many food and drink vendors plotted around. The surprise-set station at Grafters was a perfect pit stop, where punters could get their hands on merch from all the creatives in attendance, including this year’s artist-in-residence, the brilliant collage satirist Cold War Steve.

Headling this year’s iteration, following in the footsteps of CMAT, Friendly Fires and Self Esteem from previous years, were English Teacher. This wasn’t completely new territory for the Leeds-based outfit, as they also appeared here in 2022, with the likes of Squid and Wunderhorse. Keeping in trend with their aforementioned counterparts, English Teacher are fast-rising act, and this seems to be a welcome trend here. Divorce are another headlining group who previously played here, and many of the names that can be spotted on the line-up from the previous four festivals can now be spotted at larger international festivals or on tour with some of music’s biggest talent, such as Fontaines D.C. and The Streets.
